Winter makes us inclined to warm places and hot food.
During the sobering freeze of winter, plants absorb nutrition from the soil with greater vigor, and then yield mellow fruit and vegetables, which, in turn, make rich our tables. Tangerines show up since the Start of Winter, with papayas and star fruits coming up. The Minor Snow brings with it abundant radishes that bode well for the future. The broccoli, spinach, mushroom, and corn all spring up to welcome and celebrate the New Year. And, oh, the ginger, which recovers human vitality as the Chinese say and improves the blood circulation in Western terms, can never be absent in winter.
During the winter, everything lies in patience, accumulating its energy, to wait for spring’s first sunrise.
