About Alaska Glacial Mud Company

The Alaska Glacial Essentials brand was created by Alaska Glacial Mud Co. LLC., which is located in Cordova, known as Alaska's hidden treasure. It is a B-type corporation established in 2006 by founder Lauren Padawer. Its vision and mission is to create luxurious natural beauty products to nourish and protect the skin, and to contribute to the ecological conservation of Alaska (especially the Bronze River Basin) through annual revenue feedback.

Cordova is an island on the Alaskan mainland. There is no road leading to the outside world and it can only be accessed by boat or plane. On this small island surrounded by mountains, glaciers, wetlands, oceans and wilderness, with no traffic lights, billboards or fast food to be seen, glacial mud is hand-collected and made into glacial mud masks and glacial mud soaps, which are then airlifted from San Francisco to Taiwan!



Dreams and persistence

After Lauren obtained a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology from Washington University in St. Louis, she came to Alaska for an internship by chance. This clean land captured her heart and made her confirm her life goal - playing with mud. She decided to combine raw materials that were not polluted by industry, sewage, pesticides, etc. with glacier mud, which is already well known to Alaskans and used for spa treatments, to make natural and stable quality glacier mud masks and glacier mud soaps, which are sold all over the world.

In order to balance product quality and ecological conservation, we adhere to three principles in product development:

・Clean Beauty: Only safe ingredients are used, no artificial synthetic ingredients are used
・Green Beauty: Using environmentally responsible ingredients, manufacturing methods and packaging
・Ethical Beauty: comply with fair labor practices, do not conduct animal testing, and give back to charity

Following three principles, the production of Glacier Mud Mask and Glacier Mud Soap prioritizes wild, organic, sustainable and biodegradable ingredients, uses community hydroelectric power to process raw materials, and all packaging is post-consumer recyclable material. As for the glacial mud rich in minerals and trace elements, it comes from the Bronze River Delta in south-central Alaska. Since the end of the Ice Age more than 10,000 years ago, glaciers have begun to melt, and nearly 100 million tons of creamy glacial mud are deposited in the vast delta every year. In line with its commitment to ecological conservation, the Alaska Glacial Mud Company does not use heavy equipment, machinery or explosive technology, but instead uses old-fashioned 5-gallon buckets and shovels for manual collection, and complies with the annual collection permit requirement cap of 1%. Finally, 10% of profits are continually returned to wilderness conservation, habitat restoration, community sustainability, and environmental education programs.
