Born into a farming family in Ubon Ratchathani, a province in northeastern Thailand, I grew up far from the city's bustle. Self-sufficiency was a way of life; we made almost everything ourselves. My fondest childhood memories revolve around watching my grandmothers gather to craft items for our home. These weren't mere chores; they were vibrant social events. With nimble hands, they transformed raw materials into necessities: hand-knitted mattresses, woven reed mats, traditional loincloths and sarongs, and countless other treasures. They even cultivated their own cotton along the banks of the mighty Mekong River.
As I entered my teens, my grandmothers, their hands weathered by time, began to slow down. Eager to preserve their invaluable knowledge, they passed their skills on to me. Initially, I found the meticulous work tedious, but I soon discovered a quiet joy in the rhythmic movements and focused concentration. Crafting became a meditative escape.
Now in my twenties, balancing a full-time job and university studies, I still carve out time for this calming practice. It clears my mind, allowing me to reconnect with myself. I've experimented with various projects, but designing and sewing my own clothes has become my true passion. Soon, friends and family began requesting custom pieces. Witnessing their delight upon receiving a unique, handcrafted garment for the first time filled me with immense satisfaction.
For several years, I continued creating for loved ones. Then, I met my boyfriend, who introduced me to the world of Pinkoi. Recognizing my desire to share my creations with a wider audience, we decided to embark on this exciting new chapter together and open our own shop.
